...Immediate Reactions to the News of Justice Sandra Day O'Connor's Retirement

  1. Shhhiiiiiit.
  2. Wow, way to keep a poker-face, Sandra.
  3. No matter what happens - how nasty, brutal, drawn-out, or successful for the cause of moderation the confirmation process is - we will have to live with the legacy of this Administration for decades.
  4. "Liberty finds no refuge in a jurisprudence of doubt." Thanks, Justice O'Connor for Planned Parenthood vs. Casey.
  5. Sooo... Just how serious is Thyroid Cancer, anyway?

...Things I Learned From President Bush's National Address On Iraq

  1. Servicemen and women make colorful and attractive props.
  2. If you just wait 30 years, the same old rationalizations for fighting an unwinnable war will sound fresh and new again.
  3. The best way to defeat Saudi Arabians who are (probably) in Afghanistan is to go to Iraq.
  4. "What WMDs? No. No WMDs - never said, never! 9/11! 9/11... 9/11... 9/11..."
  5. I am not alone.

  1. Check-out The Communist Manifesto, Das Kapital, and The Anarchist's Cookbook from your local library.
  2. Watch the movie "Inherit The Wind."
  3. Celebrate the Sanctity of Marriage by going to Las Vegas, picking up the first stranger of the opposite sex you can find, marrying him/her in a drive-thru chapel, consummating the union in a bathroom at Circus Circus, and anulling it as soon as possible. Repeat if time allows.

...Things That Suck About The California Quarter

  1. No specific references to the Bay Area; people tend to think of the Golden Gate Bridge when thinking of California
  2. No specific references to Southern California; mentioning Hollywood, and the center of the world's film industry might have been appropriate
  3. Nothing about the Gold Rush, or the string of Missions... Pretty significant pieces of History, I think
  4. No one's first thought when thinking of CA is: "Ahh - the land of Yosemite!"
  5. No one really cares about John Muir

...Current Events That "Jumped The Shark"

  1. White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan (when asked about a statement made by Richard Meyers, involving a military issue) says that Myers - a five-star General and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff - is wrong. May 16th
  2. Terry Schaivo's parents "question the results" of her autopsy; though her brain had shrunk to half the size of a normal woman's brain, and showed she was blind and, in fact, in a persistent vegetative state.
  3. Human Events Online publishes a list of "The Ten Most Harmful Books of the 19th and 20th Centuries," which, for instance, rates the Kinsey Report as just slightly less "Evil" than The Communist Manifesto, Mein Kampf, and Chairman Mao's Little Red Book.
  4. Vice President Cheney says in an interview on FOX: "I've never been able to understand his appeal. Maybe his mother loved him, but I've never met anybody who does. He's never won anything, as best I can tell." about DNC Chairman and 5-time Governor of Vermont, Howard Dean.
  5. Michael Jackson's website equates his aquittal of all molestation charges with the birth of Martin Luther King Jr, the tearing-down of the Berlin Wall, and the freeing of Nelson Mandela.
